Sunday Quote: Thomas Arnold on the Resurrection

"Thousands and tens of thousands have gone through the evidence which attests the resurrection of Christ, piece by piece, as carefully as ever a judge summed up on the most important case. I have myself done it many times over, not to persuade others, but to satisfy myself. I have been used for many years to study the history of other times, and to examine and weigh the evidence of those who have written about them, and I know of no fact in the history of mankind which is proved by better and fitter evidence and every kind."1

Evidence for the resurrection of Jesus: a single book. And this constitutes the best evidence and 'every' kind?

How about evidence of the American Civil War: photographs, military artifacts, written first-person accounts, maps, battlefields and thousands of dead soldiers.

It takes less than a minute and only one example to demonstrate that Arnold's quote is ridiculous.

First person accounts, artifacts, accurate descriptions of cross referenced locations and events and the absence of a dead body; all presented evidence. What is lacking in comparison to your example? Photography which didn't exist? Since Thomas Arnold died two decades before the civil war, I'd say yours us the more ridiculous statement.
